August Bookish Wrap UP
It’s been an amazing reading month and I was so surprised to see how many books I’ve been able to read this month as I was gathering them all up for this article ~ 7 in total at the time of writing this and part way through my 8th! Also only two of these books come under the Sci-Fi genre, the rest are mainly contemporaries. I did plan this to be the case as I have a few contemporaries I wanted to get ticked off my TBR and August seemed like a good month to do that. But yeah, it’s still surprising that I read so many non-sci-fi books in one month!
So let me tell you all about them…
Turtles All The Way Down by John Green ~ book review
You reach for your cup of tea to take a drink only to be greeted with a view of the bottom of your mug. You're filled with disappointment as you realise you've drunk your tea faster than you were wanting to. I experience that disappointment on a regular basis where drinking tea is involved but I also feel that same level of disappointment when I reach the end of a book that I simply don't want to end!
Photography and My Health
I think that is one of the things I love about Photography: it can be adapted to your given situation. You can make it work for you. Due to the limits on my energy supplies, I try to make every hit of the shutter button count. I take my time and really think about how I want the image to look and always try to get it right in camera rather than capturing anything and relying on editing afterwards.
No Number Nine by F.J Campbell {book tour book review}
It’s September 1999 when we meet Pip Mitchell, about two years after she’s lost her older sister Holly. While in some cases, grief can ease over time, for Pip this doesn’t seem to be the case. She’s very much struggling to cope with her grief and has decided that moving away from the UK to start a whole new life where no one knows her or her sister might just help. So she takes a job as an Au Pair for the von Feldstein family in Germany. What could go wrong?
July Bookish Wrap Up
Don’t panic, it’s not the beginning of August yet. I’ve just decided to publish my July Wrap Up a week early as I have a book tour book review {details below} that needs to be published in the first of August and instead of trying to deal with two articles in one week, I thought I’d just move up my Wrap Up.
So let’s get straight into the books shall we?
Photographs and Souvenirs
…having that little trinket to show for the energy I've spent & the reason I'm now in bed in agony for days has much more meaning & importance. I actually didn't realise how important & positive this seemly little act of bringing something home was, until I went somewhere & returned with nothing, not even a photo to show for the PEM I was then experiencing. Pain & exhaustion were clouding my mind & I had to keep reminding myself that it was worth it & I had a nice time.
It was then that I realised how important it is to have something, either photographs or something else to remind you of the time you managed to spend out of the house.
Warcross / Wildcard by Marie Lu ~ Double Book Review
As you may have seen from my June Bookish Wrap Up, I decided to do more extensive review of Warcross and Wildcard by Marie Lu. I will do my best to make this double review as spoiler free as possible in case anyone reading this wants to pick up the series but doesn’t want to know the plot twists and ending before they read it ~ I mean who would right?
Okay, so let’s get into the review and fair warning friends, my review of the first book is a long one, so pace yourselves…
June Bookish Wrap Up
I know it’s been a little while since I published a post here and that’s because I decided to take a little writing break. After managing to publish two articles a week during May, I really needed some time out but due to obligations, I couldn’t take a break until mid-June. But I’m back, feeling ready to get writing again and what better way to start than to tell you all about the books that I read during June!
The World Is At War, Again by Simon Lowe {book review}
A mysterious boarding school, Spies and Things Aren’t Going Too Well With The War! These are at the heart of Simon Lowe’s debut Novel, The World Is At War, Again published by Elsewhere Press. This genre twisting story brings together Speculative Fiction with all the elements that make a great Thriller, Spy Mystery with some humorous situations thrown in that kept me hooked every step of the way. So when the love people at Literary PR reached pout and asked if I’d not online an advanced copy of this book to review but also be a part of the Virtual Book Blog Tour, I just couldn’t say no!
But before I get carried away, I’m sure you’re all wondering what on earth this book is actually about. Well, let me tell you…
May Bookish Wrap Up
I hope May was a kind month for you all and you were able to read some lovely books. I managed to read three books in May and all were enjoyable. May was quite an exhausting month due to it being M.E Awareness Month and I had a number of nights when I could barely read a page before needing to sleep. But that’s okay and managing to read three books is still good going.
M.E Awareness Month 2021 Wrap Up
Hello friends,
This is a very impromptu post but I felt I should do a little wrap up of sorts on M.E Awareness Month before my regular posting schedule of once a week returns.
Loneliness and M.E
By nature we are all different, some of us find it easier to make friends than others, it's just the way we're wired & there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. However, when you factor in a chronic illness like M.E, making friends & socialising becomes even more difficult. There are many factors as to why but I'm just going to highlight a few of the main ones:
Shopping and M.E
Like going to the shops, some people love shopping online {even if they're able to go the shops, it's just easier} and others hate it. I remember talking to someone about this and they said that they don't like shopping online, they'd much rather go to the shops when they need something. My response was simply, "I have no choice but to shop online". You see shopping with M.E, or indeed any chronic illness has a lot of difficulties. Let me explain....
Home Improvements and M.E
Doing work in your home can be stressful enough when you don't have a chronic illness but when you do, it becomes even harder to deal with, especially when one of the rooms getting work done in it, is you entire world, your sanctuary!
Blue Sunday 2021 ~ ACNH
Sunday the 16th of May was my friend Anna’s Blue Sunday Tea Party for M.E and since I had so much fun last year hosting a the first Animal Crossing Blue Sunday Event, I decided to bring it back this year.
Gastrointestinal Issues and M.E
Of all the symptoms that come with having M.E, I feel like exhaustion is the most commonly known one, with maybe pain and cognitive issues coming in next. What people may not be aware of is that there are so many more symptoms that we experience. Some of these symptoms I personally don't really talk about but I thought today, I would highlight some of the lesser know symptoms related to Gastrointestinal Issues that many with M.E experience.
Post-Exertional Malaise and M.E
For my next M.E Awareness article, I thought I’d highlight one of the key symptoms of M.E ~ Post-Exertional Malaise or PEM. Some of you may be very familiar with this term and some of you may have never heard it before, and if you fall in the latter group, hopefully you’ll find this article informative and give you a little bit of insight into the symptom of M.E.
Plan. Pace. Rest ~ Managing M.E
I know pacing & planning can seem a little daunting & feels like a lot of work! However, it is such a beneficial factor to managing your M.E symptoms, that learning how to do it, really is worth it & will help you in the long run.
What is M.E?
I thought I’d start this month’s M.E Awareness articles by talking about what M.E or Myalgic Encephalomyelitis actually is. I know many of you who read my articles actually have M.E, but there may be some of you who don’t and so maybe don’t know what it is. Also, there may be some of you reading this that are newly diagnosed with M.E and are looking for information. I hope this article is of use to you as well.
