The Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson {Book Review}
Hello friends,
Have you ever begun reading the first book in a series and within a few chapters, just known that it was going to become one of your new favourite series of all time? That’s how I felt when I decided to dive head first into Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn Saga!
…the Mistborn world is wonderfully epic, extensive and emotional. But before I begin to ramble about all the ways in which these books broke me, let me give you the synopsis of the first book:
This Vicious Cure by Emily Suvada ~ Book Review
Hello friends,
Last week I reposted my review of the first two books in the This Mortal Coil series by Emily Suvada and today I’m sharing my review on the final book. Just a reminder that if you’re thinking of picking up this series, it does feature quite heavily a deadly virus that’s spreading throughout the world. Some of you might find that difficult reading while we’re living through a pandemic.
But if you’re someone who doesn't mind reading about that durigin this time, then this might be the series for you.
So let’s get into the review…
This Mortal Coil / This Cruel Design by Emily Suvada ~ Double Book Review
Hello friends,
I was struggling to think of what to write about for this week and then I remembered I had a couple of book reviews I wanted to repost from my blog before I moved it over to this space. So for this week and next week, I’ll be re-sharing my reviews for the This Mortal Coil Series by Emily Suvada. This week, is my review for the first two books and then next week, I’ll share my review of the final book in the series…
November Bookish Wrap Up / December TBR
Hello friends,
It seems like it’s been a while since I did a Bookish Wrap Up since I missed October ~ I only read Dune that month and I wrote a full review on it here, in case you missed it. November was a quiet reading month as well as I read two books this past month. So instead of this being a really short wrap up, I thought I’d include my December TBR at the end.
So let’s get into the books…
Manic Man by Jason Wegner {Book Tour Book Review}
Hello friends,
I’m pleased to share that I’m starting off the virtual Book Tour for Jason Wagner’s debut book, Manic Man. Full details of the book tour are at the end of this review, so you’ll be able to follow the tour as it’s running from today, the 26th of November to the 4th of December.
Manic Man is a memoir of Jason’s experience living through his first manic episode, which led to him being diagnosed with Bipolar I Disorder and the treatment plan that his Doctor, Dr. Kerry Bernes, {who wrote the forward for this book} and he put together to help Jason live life with his severe mental illness.
Dune by Frank Herbert {book review}
Hello friends,
Doesn’t it just feel like everyone is talking about Dune at the moment ~ both the book and the latest film? Well since I recently finished reading the book, I’d thought I’d jump on the Dune hype train and write a review and share my thoughts. I’ll do my best to make this a spoiler free as possible, though there will likely be vague spoilerly hints at certain things. So grab a beverage of your choice, maybe a snack and let me tell you about one of my new favourite books!
That Playlist Book Box
Hello friends,
I know I’d normally be sharing my October Bookish Wrap Up today but I only read one book during October and you can read the review of it here and I’m still reading through Dune by Frank Herbert and I don’t want to share my thoughts until I’ve finished it.
So I thought I’d tell you about the book box that I’m currently the Rep for ~ That Playlist Book Box…
Conversations at the Pond by Henry Slator ~ Book Tour Book Review
Hello friends,
It’s my turn on the virtual book tour for Henry Slator’s Conversations at the Pond and I’m really excited to tell you about this short story collection and share my thoughts on it…
September Bookish Wrap Up
Despite the fact that I was hosting my Book Club’s One Year Anniversary Readathon, personally this month was a bit up and down and that definitely had an impact on my reading…
But don’t worry because audiobooks have been my saving grace, so here’s what I’ve been listening to along with the only book I physically read this month:
Turtles All The Way Down by John Green ~ book review
You reach for your cup of tea to take a drink only to be greeted with a view of the bottom of your mug. You're filled with disappointment as you realise you've drunk your tea faster than you were wanting to. I experience that disappointment on a regular basis where drinking tea is involved but I also feel that same level of disappointment when I reach the end of a book that I simply don't want to end!
No Number Nine by F.J Campbell {book tour book review}
It’s September 1999 when we meet Pip Mitchell, about two years after she’s lost her older sister Holly. While in some cases, grief can ease over time, for Pip this doesn’t seem to be the case. She’s very much struggling to cope with her grief and has decided that moving away from the UK to start a whole new life where no one knows her or her sister might just help. So she takes a job as an Au Pair for the von Feldstein family in Germany. What could go wrong?
Warcross / Wildcard by Marie Lu ~ Double Book Review
As you may have seen from my June Bookish Wrap Up, I decided to do more extensive review of Warcross and Wildcard by Marie Lu. I will do my best to make this double review as spoiler free as possible in case anyone reading this wants to pick up the series but doesn’t want to know the plot twists and ending before they read it ~ I mean who would right?
Okay, so let’s get into the review and fair warning friends, my review of the first book is a long one, so pace yourselves…
The World Is At War, Again by Simon Lowe {book review}
A mysterious boarding school, Spies and Things Aren’t Going Too Well With The War! These are at the heart of Simon Lowe’s debut Novel, The World Is At War, Again published by Elsewhere Press. This genre twisting story brings together Speculative Fiction with all the elements that make a great Thriller, Spy Mystery with some humorous situations thrown in that kept me hooked every step of the way. So when the love people at Literary PR reached pout and asked if I’d not online an advanced copy of this book to review but also be a part of the Virtual Book Blog Tour, I just couldn’t say no!
But before I get carried away, I’m sure you’re all wondering what on earth this book is actually about. Well, let me tell you…
May Bookish Wrap Up
I hope May was a kind month for you all and you were able to read some lovely books. I managed to read three books in May and all were enjoyable. May was quite an exhausting month due to it being M.E Awareness Month and I had a number of nights when I could barely read a page before needing to sleep. But that’s okay and managing to read three books is still good going.
A Girl In One Room by Jessica Taylor-Bearman ~ Book Review
If you’ve been reading my articles for a while then you’ll know I love to write book reviews. I enjoy telling you all about the books I’ve been reading and my thoughts on them. But sometimes I come across a book that makes such a huge impact on me, that I find myself struggling to put my thoughts into words - in a good way. A Girl In One Room by Jessica Taylor-Beaman is one such book! But I’m going to do my best to tell you all about this book and my thoughts because Jessica’s story is an important one and the more people that read it, the better.
Relatable Book Characters ~ Mental and Physical Health
Like many people, I generally use reading as a form of escape from real life, but it is always comforting to come across characters who may be struggling with something similar to yourself. So I thought I'd share a few of my favourite characters with you; some you may not be familiar with, some you may never have made the connection to having Mental or Physical health issues and some you may know well.
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins ~ Book Review
"It is the morning of the reaping that will kick off the tenth Hunger Games. In the Capitol, eighteen year old Coriolanus Snow is preparing for his one shot at glory as a mentor in the Games. The once-mighty house of Snow has fallen on hard times, its fate hanging on the slender chance that Coriolanus will be able to out charm, outwit, and outmanoeuvre his fellow students to mentor the winning tribute…”
February Bookish Wrap Up
How was your February? I hope it was a kind one and you were able to read a book or two. I read a total of three books this month, two physical and one audiobook, plus one play. Here’s what they were, along with my thoughts…
Bookshop.org Book Haul
Book Shops, large or small, are such magical places and they need all the help they can get during these times when people simply cannot set foot into the shops. So buying from BookShop is a great way to help and I felt so proud knowing that I’d helped out a local shop with my order.
Ready Player One / Ready Player Two by Ernest Cline ~ Double Book Review
I thought I’d do something a little different for this article and review two books in one. Since they’re part of a duology, I thought it would be nice to share my thoughts of both them together, how they compare to each other and whether or not, I think Ready Player One really needed a sequel.
