September Wrap Up
Hello Friends!
Yep it’s time to wrap up the month again. While we’re now in my favourite time of the year, September has been interesting month; it’s been a mixture of fun, exhaustion and emotional ups and downs. So lets get into the all of it!
Health Up:
My health has been pretty the much the same, I’m not better but not really any worse. I’ve had a few days where I feel my mental health has bit on the lower side but when I explain what I had to deal with at the end of August / beginning of September, then you might understand.
I’m not going to go into too much detail as I am thinking of writing a whole piece on this topic at some point but basically, the time came for me to sell my little beloved Clio. I tried so hard to keep driving as much as my body would allow me but I was always left highly exhausted and in pain that the past couple of years, the only I actually drove was to take my car for its MOT. It was being started on the drive and in the month or so leading up to it being sold, my mum was driving it and I eventually handed it over to her to use but long story short, it was decided that it was time for my Clio to go.
I’m incredibly sad about the whole situation and even now I could cry just thinking about it as it’s just another thing in a big list of things that I no longer have in my life thanks to M.E. It’s weird to feel like I’ve been grieving my car being sold but that’s how it feels. However, for now that’s all I’ll say as like I said, I’m hoping when I’m ready and able to write a whole piece on this topic.
Books ~ Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen / Audiobook read by Rosamund Pike
I managed to finished three books in September and started a fourth. But I thought I’d just highlight one of them. Okay tiny story time: as a child I enjoyed listening to books on tape {I’m definitely showing my age now!} My Nanna would often get them for me from our local Library. As a teenager and now as an adult, I much prefer the peace that comes from reading a physical book. But although I love reading Classics, I do find my broken M.E brain struggles with the old English way of speaking.
When I first picked up Pride and Prejudice, I read a few chapters and found that while it’s a book I’ve read countless times, I was struggling despite it being incredibly familiar. So I decided to give Audible a try. I downloaded the version read by Rosamund Pike {she actually played Jane in the 2005 film version} and followed along with the book. I enjoyed it so much! Rosamund made it so entertaining by doing all the character voices and I found myself getting through it far quicker than if I’d been physically reading it alone. I did miss the quiet of reading but I also found it useful being able to “read” while I was doing some little jobs, like sorting my bookshelves or putting my washing away.
So, if like me, you love Classics but now struggle to read them physically, maybe give the audiobook a try. Just be careful if your sound sensitive like myself, to chose ones that don’t have full sound effects and music as that might be too much for you.
Video Game ~ Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy
May moons ago when I got my Nintendo DS and began playing Animal Crossing, I also began playing a game called Professor Layton and the Curious Village. I loved it so much that when the next one came out I played that and basically any of the others following it.
The Professor Layton series is a mystery/puzzle type game where you find clues to solve the main mystery of the game but you also find and solve side puzzles. while I enjoy Animal Crossing for it’s escapist, relaxing style of play, I also love puzzle and mystery games and the Professor Layton games filled that need.
Since both my Animal Crossing Islands are at a point where I’m just doing my daily jobs, I decided to buy the latest Professor Layton game for the Switch. In this one, you pay as Layton’s daughter, Katrielle. Although the storyline is different and the puzzles and cases are new, there’s such feeling of nostalgia to the game as many of the features are the same.
I will say, this game is very taxing on my brain so I’ve only reached the start of the third case as I’m having to not play it for too long but it’s so enjoyable and it’s also nice to play it on the Switch in TV mode rather than handheld. So if you have a Switch and you’re looking for a new game to try, maybe have a look at this one if you enjoy puzzle solving and mysteries.
Skin Care ~ Rich Plum Body Yoghurt
My final favourite of September is the Rich Plum body Yoghurt from The Body Shop. As most of you know, I am a Body Shop girl, my skin is happy with most of their products, which is wonderful considering how sensitive it can be.
As my mental health has been a bit lower this month, I have tried to pamper myself a little more when my energy levels have allowed and the Body Yoghurts in general from The Body Shop are a really nice way of doing this. While you do need some energy to use them and you can use them anytime you want to but because you can apply them straight onto wet skin, I’ve been using mine after a shower. They soak in quicker than a body butter so there is no need to wait a long time before getting back into your pyjamas and resting in bed. They leave you skin feeling lovely and moisturised and you smell good too!
Sadly the Rich Plum scent isn’t available anymore and I think that range has been replaced with the Festive Berry but I also have the Almond Milk Body Yoghurt which is for sensitive skin and lovely to use too.
So there we go, just a select few of my favourite things during the month of September. If you missed it, I wrote a piece last week about the things that make Autumn my favourite time of the year! You can read that here if you like.
I’d love to know some of your favourite things during September, so leave me a comment below if you’d like to share.
