Bookish Wrap Up | January

Hello Readers,
Before we get into the books, you may have noticed a graphic change for my Wrap Ups. Each year I like to change them up a bit and I spent some time last night {as I’m writing this} playing around in the GoDaddy Studio App {use to be called Over} and I really like what I came up with ~ I think it’s clean and simple and exactly the look I want for my graphics. Let me know what you think.
If you didn’t see my December 2022 Wrap Up, I’ve decided to change up the format of these Wrap Ups a little bit and make them more of a list of what I’ve read, broken up into Audiobooks and Physical Books. I’ll share if I enjoyed the books but won’t go into a huge amount of detail about the books or my thoughts on them. Any books that I want to tell you more about, I’ll write a dedicated review for. I’m hoping this will just help lessen the energy needed for writing these and help me get back to writing more regularly again.
Okay, so lets get into the books I managed to read/listen to during January…
Audiobooks
I listened to six audiobooks this month, one of which I followed allow with at times, so I’ve popped it in this category as I did listen to it more than physically read.
The Case of the Bizarre Bouquets by Nancy Springer
The Case of the Peculiar Pink Fan by Nancy Springer
The Case of the Cryptic Crinoline by Nancy Springer
The Case of the Gypsy Good-bye by Nancy Springer
All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
With the four Nancy Springer books I listened to, I’ve managed to read all but one of the Elona Holmes books now. I thoroughly enjoyed them all as they’re just fun, short adventure mystery books set within the world of Sherlock Holmes, who is featured more as the series went on ~ another plus in my mind!
All The Light We Cannot See was my “Blind Date” book for January and it was equal parts beautiful as it was sad and while being set during a time period I tend to stay away from when choosing books, I enjoyed this one far more than I expected to.
The Cruel Prince was more of a “let’s see what the hype is about” kind of choice for me and it falls into the same category as the ACOTAR series in that it’s a decent enough story and Jude was an interesting character but I don’t think I’ll be continuing with the series anytime soon. But I do understand the hype now and if I was younger, I’d probably be right there in the middle of it.
Physical Books
I read two books physically this month, one was my Book Club’s Buddy Read Book and the other was an arc that I was kindly gifted.
Mr Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan
The Logos Prophecy by Martin Treanor
Mr Penumbra was my Book Club read and I really enjoyed it. It’s an interesting mix of academia and modern day technology with puzzles to figure out and adventures to go on ~ there’s also a book within the book that I loved. I’d highly recommend this one if you enjoy books about books.
The Logos Prophecy is the arc I was gifted and I’ll be joining the book tour for this month. So to find out more about this book and my full thoughts on it, keep an eye out for the review that’s coming on the 12th of February.
So those were the books I managed to read/listen to during January and I’m glad my 2023 reading year has got off to a good start. I just hope the rest of the year is just as good, if not better!
Earlier this week I opened my February “Blind Date” book and put together my TBR for the month, both of which I shared over on my Bookstagram, so be sure to give that a follow if you want to keep more up to date with what I’m reading and what I think of the books I’ve read recently.
What book/s did you manage to read during January? I’d love to know.
Stay Safe. Read a Book.
